All Access with Alan Frog
After the rape of The Lost Boys good name that was last year’s The Tribe, I can’t help but sneer at the thought of a third installment. Perhaps this one will be a genuine sequel instead of a cock-eyed remake with a side of tits and a dip dish of expletives.
Now I unabashedly say I am a part of the fandom and I’m in close contact with many die-hard Lost Boys fans. Much excremental matter splattered against many rotating devises when people saw the monstrosity of the movie that is now being buried under Represitol and heavy therapy. The one consistency across all Lost Boys boards was that the best part of the movie was when it was over. And not just because the pain of the celluloid nightmare had finally ended but because the best parts weren’t actually in the movie.
Corey Feldman reprising his role as Edgar Frog was a constant source of reprieve for Lost Boys fans but it was like getting a three second break before a massive fist worked over your face for another fifteen minutes. The time back to real Lost Boys world was lovely, but it just made it more painful to fall back into cheap imitation.
The real moments of glory, though, were reuniting Edgar Frog and Sam Emerson, with Corey Haim in full fang, and Alan Frog, played by none other than Jamison Newlander, tearing down the road with a blood slut on his arm and a beast of a car between his legs. These nanoseconds of sheer glory were enough to make the fans go, “WTF??? Why didn’t you give us that???” The movie was a massive failure (yeah, yeah, largest grossing DVD for Warner Brothers last year, but have you checked the turn around on places like eBay and Amazon?) but those snippets of story that turned all our balls blue gave us hope that maybe, just maybe, Warner Brothers wouldn’t shove a stake up our collective asses and tell us to take it like good little fans again.
Now that it’s been “confirmed” that TLB3 is, indeed, sludging it’s way to production, it leaves us with a few questions. Has Warner Brothers learned from their mistakes? Will they actually listen to the fans since, you know, the fans are going to be the ones buying their product? Will they show a modicum of respect for the original movie instead of pulling the cash cow’s teets to milk dust? Will they be able to revive Sam, Edgar and Alan to their once previous glory, and as of late teaser glory, in this third installment?
So I stand here with my pen in twitching hand and a pad of paper getting dotted underneath as I wait for Jamison to emerge so I can squeeze some juice out of him.
Jamison! How’s it going? How about taking a few minutes out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions about this third Lost Boys being spawned? To be Lost Boys cliché, inquiring minds want to know.
Okay, I hear that you’re angry . …In all seriousness, I’ve talked to a lot of fans since “Lost Boys: The Tribe” came out and there are a lot of totally different reactions. You may be surprised to hear the some people loved it. But, I think that a common theme across the board whether people loved it or liked it or didn’t like it – or, as you put it, felt like “…a massive fist worked over your face” – a common theme is that people wanted to see more of the Frog Brothers and the Coreys – or maybe that’s just what they told me (maybe they’ve been telling Chance Corbitt that they wanted to see more Laddie…I know I do). I think the studio has been hearing that loud and clear (or at least, that’s what they’ve been telling me).
We’re definitely not lying about seeing you guys on film but uh, I’m wont to check the validity of those Lost Boys “fans” that actually liked The Tribe. I’ve yet to meet, well, any.
Ok, so it’s been “released” that TLB3 is going to be made. Please tell us it’s not going to be the dignity destroyer that The Tribe was.
The problem with me saying anything for certain right now is that it has only been “rumored” that there will be a Lost Boys 3. And it has only been “rumored” that I’m going to be in it – so, I don’t want to say anything that would make the studio mad at me. I’ll simply say that I have been in contact with the folks at Warner Bros. and also, of course, with Corey Feldman – who is a friend (by the way, Haim’s a friend too, so it’s not like I’m taking sides – I’m Corey neutral). I don’t think there is a script yet, but I know that they seem to be quite serious about the Frogs being heavily involved.
Well that’s good. Lets all pray that they actually stick to their word.
Can you give us anything on the premise? Will we learn why Sam was locked up, what happened to Alan, how all of them ended up where they are? Anything?
Oh, no you don’t. You’re trying to get me to slip up and tell that – aha, you almost caught me. To be honest, while I’ve heard some really cool ideas bounced around, I’m still in the position of anxiously awaiting something more solid just like everybody else.
Hey, I can try, can’t I? Doesn’t mean I’m going to stop poking.
Have Warner Brothers heard the cries of the fans on this one? Are they going to give us what we want? And, of course, what we want is more Frog BrotherS. Plural.
Again, it’s probably because I’m a Frog Brother that people say this to me, but I’ve been on the good end of all kinds of love for over 20 years – people wanting to see more Frogs. And I think this our time is coming!!!!! I think the era of Frog is upon us!!!!!! (but again, I can’t say for sure). And, I appreciate that you specified Frog BrotherS. It can be touchy all this talk of Edgar Frog.
I’m the type of person to tell you you’re drooling on yourself instead of saying you look great when you have a puddle forming on your chest, so when I say I want more Frogs, I want more Frogs, dammit! And a lone Monster Basher is just lame. Edgar wouldn’t be Edgar without Alan. Plain and simple.
Was putting you and the two Coreys in those extended scenes a ploy to lead into this third movie? I have a few little messenger birdies that tell me that the option for a third movie was always there.
I think, if anybody on the Lost Boys team said they weren’t thinking about a third one even before the first sequel came out, I’d contend they were lying. I think everybody wants this to continue – I think The Tribe was the tip of the iceberg. It was everybody getting their feet wet again, reviving it, getting it breathing again, feeding it a little blood to get its energy up (you know, using vampire metaphor – badly). As far as putting us in the “extended scenes” – yes, I believe it was definitely a way of leaving their options open.
I can only hope they’ve gotten their “lets make shit” out of their system with The Tribe.
So you’ll be getting more than seven seconds of screen time in this one, right? RIGHT? Because I have some very angry fans on my hands that are destroying poor defenseless stress balls over the fact that you were shafted in the second movie.
I love the visual of people destroying stress balls because I was only in The Tribe briefly. Again, I fear if I try to comment on this, I may slip into giving something away that I shouldn’t be giving away – so, I’ll pass on this one. But I want to tell you what I know, or at least what I think I know. But not yet.
Not yet? Do you have any idea how anxious we all are??? Fine . . .
As a new father, I have to listen to my little boy cry his eyes out in his crib – yet sit on my hands for 10 minutes before going in to comfort him. I’ve learned how to hold back even when I don’t want to. Again, I wish I could give you more right now. Soon. Soon. I feel your pain.
So your character, Alan. Slight change from the first movie. I know it’s been 20 years since the first but talk about the personality shift that Alan’s had to take going from Awesome Monster Basher to Awesome Monster Bashed. And which do you like playing better and why?
I have to take the fifth on this one too. Sorry. Soon, I hope I’ll be able to talk about it more freely.
*grumble*
Speaking of Alan being a vampire, who made him and just how did he become a master? Was David in on this?
Pleading the fifth.
*headdesk*
And what does this mean for the previously inseparable dynamic between Alan and Edgar? Tension much?
For this one, I’ll comment in general that when Lost Boys: The Tribe was premiered at Comicon in San Diego last year, Corey and I participated in the panel discussion afterwards AS THE FROG BROTHERS!! (there are some pictures floating around somewhere). We came out in army fatigues. And aside from how fun it was that the crowd was having a blast, it was great to be side-by-side as the Frogs again for a few minutes. I hope that whatever the future of the Frog Brothers, we get a chance to be side-by-side again.
That’s a good dodge there, Jamison. Good dodge.
It’s been said that Corey Feldman has signed on to executive produce the movie. How do you think that‘ll turn out?
No official comment on that except to say that the Feld-dog has really impressed me with how creative and on top of things he can be. If that’s how it plays out – with him exec producing – I think it would be a good thing for the movie.

After The Tribe, a slug in a bowler hat is a step up. Feldman should be able to do wonders.
Can you give us anything on the script? Anything that’ll give us hope that it won’t be an epic failure like The Tribe?
Nothing official. But, I have high hopes.
Damn you and your high hopes!
Kiefer Sutherland, the one and only David, had some not nice things to say about The Tribe. I quote, “Lost Boys was a massive part of my life, it still is,” Sutherland told Shock Til You Drop. “You can’t crap on that. And I’m not going to go out and do a cameo in a DVD release sequel. Why they never talked to Joel Schumacher in the past 15 years about doing a proper sequel… If you’re not going to embrace what you’re coming from in its original state…” What do you think about that? With hindsight, do you share any of the same feelings?
I think people should listen to Kiefer, and what he has to say. He’s awesome and him being such a badass as David was part of what made the first one so awesome. I don’t really know the politics of the sequel– was that true that they didn’t listen to Joel? He probably has a point about that, then. Joel’s a badass too. But I still think there’s more that we can do with these characters – I think there’s more that fans want to see from these characters. I’m happy we’re continuing, regardless of whose ideas move it forward.
With Joel, there were some things mentioned on the special edition DVD of The Lost Boys as well as rumors circling around for years. Gotta love loose lips!
Speaking of Joel Schumacher, can you give any insight as to why he wasn’t involved in any of this sequel business, or why his Lost Girls idea was never made? From where I stand, it seems rather political.
Ah, yes. I jumped the gun, talking about the politics in my last answer. In my experience, there is politics in everything and I was never really able to keep up with the Lost Boys politics. Are you sure that Joel wasn’t involved at all?
From what my birdies tell he, he was left in the dust which is a damn shame. Joel would have never allowed The Tribe to see the light of day.
And how about Corey Haim? All of the articles are saying that his appearance in this installment is highly unlikely. Um, Awesome Monster Bashers have three major components – Edgar, Alan and Sam. Does this have anything to do with the reported heat between the two Coreys?
As I said, I am Corey neutral. I am a product of a broken home, myself. So any back and forth between the Coreys, I try to stay out of it. It reminds me too much of my childhood. If anybody listened to me, I’d say let’s have the whole gang back together.
Lets hope they listen then.
Should we expect constant news briefs going back and forth that Haim is, isn’t, is, isn’t involved until the release of the film, again?
The Lost Boys 3 roller coaster is leaving the station and where she stops nobody knows. With the Tribe, I was with Haim – in it, then out of it, then in it again. So, I think it’s too early to say how many surprises there’ll be. All we can do is hold on and enjoy the ride.

Very true. The surprises kept coming with The Tribe. Lets hope the final one isn’t such of a shock.
How do you think this third installment will pan out? Do you think it’ll be a positive? The fans trust you. Can you say this one will be set to higher expectations and standards than the last?
That’s nice of you to say that the fans trust me. I’ve always tried to be as honest as possible when I talk to people. And right now I will not betray that trust by guessing too much. When I know more, I’ll let you know. For now, we’ll just say that I have high hopes.
In the next interview, you are hereby banned from saying you have “high hopes.”
Anything else you’re working on? These birds, they don’t stop tweeting, I swear. I hear you’re directing a play?
Yeah, somewhere along the line I started writing – which some fans know about. But not many know that I think live theater is the hottest thing ever. This group I work with a bunch, Company of Angels, is the oldest theater company in Los Angeles – celebrating a 50 year anniversary this year. We convinced the Alexandria Hotel in downtown L.A. to give us space and let us build a theater. So, we did, and now we’re doing a show about some of the famous old-time movie actors and actresses that lived there in its heyday in the 1920s. My play is called “Goodbye, Mary Pickford,” a kind of a twist on the famous meeting between Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks where they created the film studio United Artists in the lobby of the Alexandria hotel. And being the control freak I am sometimes, I decided to direct it myself. I’ll send you some press photos when we take them in the next couple of weeks. If there’s anybody reading this who wants to come and see it, I’d love to see you there – and make sure to come introduce yourself to me when you come. Check it out at companyofangelstheater.org or reserve tickets at brownpapertickets.com (typing in my name should bring up the title of the whole event, L.A. Views: Tales of Present Past).
That’s awesome to see you’re so involved with the stage. It must be thrilling!
How’s your little boy? How does he feel about daddy playing a gnarly vampire? Does he prefer the Rambo vampire hunter to the fangs?
He hasn’t said much about it yet. I think he wants me to be bad. But, Nathan is the greatest little kid. He’s healthy and happy and Hanny and I just adore him.
So there. The pen’s still twitching and I still have a little bit of a sneer but at least it’s not surfing vampires. Yet. That alone is a step up. High hopes, they are there.
The blood cherry on the vampire sundae–
Here is it, guys and girls, Lost Boys fans of all kinds; the chance to get your ideas and thoughts heard for TLB3. I was able to squeeze a little bit extra out of Jamison and he might have told me that interaction like this, and hearing input straight from the fans, can influence just what we see on the screen for the final TLB3 product. You heard that right. No promises*, of course, but as these are the beginning stages of the film, it’s a prime opportunity to potentially influence the scriptwriter’s mind. Jamison will hear your calls and take what he can to his super important movie meetings where he rubs elbows with super important movie people. Who knows. If there’s enough roar, the fans might have some sway in the final result of the film. So start talking. What did you like about The Tribe that you want to see carried forward? What didn’t you like that you want to see staked in the past? What are your ideas and thoughts for TLB3? Don’t be shy. Important inquiring minds will be lurking around Hotel Twilight and we just might help be saviors of this third installment from a fate worse than The Tribe.

I have a plausible idea for a 3rd installment that would serve 2 purposes:
1. Bridge the two movies by using Jamisons character (as it was hinted at in the 7 seconds they gave him) as a vampire.
2. Bring back the OG cast.
3. Get Joel S to direct it….ok so thats 3 purposes.
It starts with the footage of Jamisons character driving fast-the footage that was cut from the other movie..Maybe he was driving to SC instead of Luna Bay…
The Emerson house has sat vacant and empty for 20 plus years. Grandpa Emerson buried the vampire remains in the cellar, and told no one. He passed away and the family moved away. The house is rumored to be haunted. A group of teenagers go there and break in. They want to party, the guys want to scare the girls so someone brings a ouija board..
Theyre in the basement. Dirt floor. They form a circle and start a seance.
In the shadows some one watches (Jamison)
The kids start asking questions of the ouija board
“Show us if youre here, give us a sign…”
Jamisons character attacks, but with a knife. Bloodletting onto the floor.
The ground begins to shift, a hand claws free……
I think that a reconstituted vampire after 20+ years of being in vampire hell would look older. Plus how much can be done with SPX?
Chances character Laddie could be drawn back because he would some how still be connected to TLB.
So the OG Lost Boys come back with vengance. Jamisons character would be in an odd position as he is now a vampire. Sam and Edgar have their battle- it ties everything together.
-And I’ve already figured it out that Alex Winters Character would not have to be included if he didnt want to because he was killed in the cave.
Donna has pictures of the house as we saw it a few years ago, they are restoring it now.
Donna is my co partner on this, so should it end up actually on film Please give credit and Checks to us!
I think David should come back. Alan as a vampire very cool, Don’t get me wrong loved the Frog Brother’s, but Alan as a vamp nice idea.
I think if it were re-done a prequel would be great. I know everyone is older now, and people will probably throw rocks at me for saying that, but it would be nice to see some history on the original Lost Boys and how they came to be vampires. Either that or at least have the original four come back for cameo’s as some other character. I read that Alex Winter said he would have liked to do one in the second movie. Of course he could have changed his mind by now.
I’d like to see how Sam was turned. LOL. This is like no help what so ever. Just please, please, no cheese this time. I think the Lost Boys deserve to be on the big screen again!
*cracks knuckles* You want roar? Oh I’ll give you roar. I’ve been stewing about this for a good long while and like many fans I have a few bones to pick with the Tribe shenanigans. That’s right, I said shenanigans. *Ahem*
In the film we get to see Alan tearing up asphalt on his way to Luna Bay. Somehow the beloved Frog Bro has gone from “Death to all Vampires” to “Undead and Loving It.” This puts a serious kink in our tail on the simple fact that the how’s and why’s haven’t been verified. Sure, it’ll be great material for a back-story. Flashbacks on the action that led to Alan’s turning, who turns him, the rift that appears between the two Brothers (assuming there’s a rift seeing how Edgar wasn’t too happy with Sam’s news about Alan being on his way) , yadda yadda yadda everyone gets to find out the how’s and why’s and that launches us into the present situation. Tie it all in a neat little bow and voila, instant LB goodness.
However, what ties does Alan have with Shame…I mean Shane and his pack of bloodthirsty goofs? The Heckler drops that oh-so-cute-not line towards the end of the film and I quote: “Your brother’s here” to Edgar while the lone Frog is inching his way through the vamp nest. Now, how would Bedhead over there have known about Alan? Were the Luna Bay vampires part of Alan’s personal pack? Were they decoys? Stooges? Messengers? The Sufer Express? Alan’s fledglings? What?
Also, Sam was bitten and thus in Half-Vamp mode but by who? One of Alan’s drudges perhaps? Or by Alan himself? Was Sam sent in if all self should fail to set Edgar up? How about the Emerson brats? Targeted specifically or just at random (consensus leans towards the former). Is our ex-Monster Basher setting everyone up for some nefarious all’s-well-that-ends-in-hell bash? The possibilities are endless.
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned or noted in any way in the Tribe, but has been in the Frog Brothers comic series is Grandpa. Yes, the beloved and cherished elderly vampire slayer. What the heck happened to Grandpa! The comics show him as a half-vampire and thus dies the death of random slayage. *blink* Yeah, okay. So what really happened to Grandpa? How did he know about the vampires? About Max in particular? The Cucaracha Car of Chaos is a legendary god-send in the LB Fandom. Bring it back! Will there be any serious delving into Grandpa in any sense of the term? Did he end up training the Frog Brothers how to properly destroy all vampires after the first film? Was he a Vietnam war vet who knew how to kick ass the good old fashion way, hence his private war on the undead? Grandpa equals greatness. Please, if there is a shred of decency and sense out there, honour this great fictional character by giving him some sort of send-off. Remember, Grandpa pawns vampires, may he rest in peace.
Almost done here I promise. Aunt Jillian. *deep breath* In a perfect world Alan would show up in Luna Bay, break down her door, drag her out by the hair all the way down to the tide-line where a pile of dry flotsam and jetsam would have been already piled as kindling, tie her to a spit, cover her in home-made barbecue sauce (family recipe handed down from generation to generation), and roast her alive all the while having the Emersons forced to watch this little welcome to your worst nightmare moment. However this is not a perfect world. Will we be seeing the death of this infernal woman? Seeing how the Tribe followed the same outline as the first film (with slight variations of course), was Aunt Jillian supposed to have subbed in the Grandpa role? If so, will there be another character to fill in Grandpa’s fairly large moccasins? Someone worth their salt? (*cough*DonaldSutherlandcameo*cough*) I’ll say it once and I’ll say it twice, if they can bring David back from the dead they can bring in Donald to knock the pants off everyone with that Sutherland stare. Just an innocent little thought.
That’s all she wrote for now. May the brain juices flow.
i think that alternate ending with alan and his girlfriend was very good i hope that in the next one it carries on with him and her comeing to get edgar but if they dont have alan as a vampire in the next one thats fine but i still hope that his girlfriend can still be in it with him i mean just cause she was a vampire in the car with him and if hes in the next one not as a vampire then i would love for her to still be in it not as a vampire aswell cause i like the way that alan has got himself a girlfriend but i do thick that would be good with edgar taking on his brother and his brothers girlfriend if they do carrie on with that alternate ending
Probably not an idea but more of a hope…
I didn’t like how Pesce or whoever decided it changed the way the vampires looked in The Tribe when they vamped out.
If whoever is directing wants to make LB3, then I’d like to see them decide to stick with the make-up effects and eye colour used for the vampires in TLB. No more black eyes and wierd, bat/dog-looking faces. Bring back the good old amber eyes.
Okay, firstly I think the third movie should focus on the Frogs and Sam – who turned Alan, what happened between him and Edgar, what happened to Sam etc. Also, I want to see more of vampire Alan! Can he have a big role in it this time please?
Alex Winter expressed interest in doing a cameo apparently. They HAVE to include that!
The concept of a sequel should have been about the Frog Brothers and Sam in the first place! The last 5 minutes of The Tribe and the alternate endings were the only winning elements in the whole blasted thing for me…
So, if the powers that be are going to do a third installment, I’d like them to do it right this time! The Frog Brothers and Sam are a story all on their own and deserve so much more attention than featured roles in a poorly rehashed version of the original!
If they’re going to hint that the Frogs have been split up and Alan has been vamped out, then don’t tease us. Lay it on us! This could be a great story if it’s told right! I have lots of hope, because I know that Jamison Newlander & Corey Feldman will bring the same life to their roles that they always have…I just hope the writers and directors don’t dissappoint!
Congratulations on a great interview, Donna! I never saw Lost Boys 2 and don’t intend to. My input for Lost Boys 3, however, based on what I’ve heard, would be to pretend that LB2 never existed and treat LB3 as an alternate universe sequel where we get to see where Edgar, Alan, and Sam’s lives have taken them 22 years later. I cannot say how much the thought of any of these characters turned into vampires PISSES ME OFF! I’m really just so very sick of the cash cow, and would like to feel that the studio cares more about pleasing the fans than getting their hands in everyone’s wallets.
I’ve posted this on IMDB, and I’m going to post it again.
My Personal Demands (mostly copied from bairdy_box):
Realistic:
1) An attempt to get Feldman, Haim and Newlander all on board. In particular MAKE SURE THE FROG BROS ARE AT SOME POINT BACK.
2) Have a DECENT story, not a rehash of the first, possibly center it around Edgar Frog trying to get his brother back, I loved that aspect to the viral marketing.
3) A decent director that knows the original back to front -
A TRUE FAN WITH A VISION.
4) Also a talented composer, cinematographer, costume designer, make-up artist.
ON THE LEVEL WITH THE ORIGINAL.
5) A return to the old style prosthetics and lenses….no Buffy-alike vampires.
6) Little or no use of bad language. It wasn’t needed in the original and we don’t need it now.
7) For the UKers, I felt ripped off with the prospect of having to get the original again in order to get The Tribe. SELL IT SEPERATELY
Unrealistic:
1) Big screen treatment. I don’t know all the figures, but I imagine it could be doable, but might be unrealistic. I do think a LIMITED RELEASE would be warranted.”
I have a couple of things that would seriously make me cry with pure joy if they showed up in the movie:
1.) I want to see an adult Laddie! We are never told what happened to him. It says in the novel that he went back to his parents, but hanging out with a bunch of unruly vampires and becoming a half youself would do SOMETHING to a ten-year-old’s psyche. Even if it just made him fond of strangers or something, I’d love to see if he’s pro or anti-vampire. Has he tried to find ways to revive the boys? Has he gotten nightmares and started a campaign with the Frogs? WE NEED LADDIE!
2.) Backstory. The comic and Tribe told us nada about anything: HOW did Alan become a vampire? WHO turned him? WHEN did he get turned? Same for Sam: WHO? WHY? WHEN?! And when did he go to the loony bin?
3.) The original Lost Boys. The Tribe is…the Tribe, not the Lost Boys. Even if they did a small cameo or something, get them back together! And if they were a major part of the film, which I think they should be, then there are always ways to get around the age issue. Plastic surgery, if desperate. Or, like Tori said, being stuck in dirt for twenty-odd years and reconstituting your entire body (like Paul and Dwayne, to an extent) would certainly age you if you couldn’t drink fresh blood for that time!
4.) This one is very much necessary: HOW DID ALAN BECOME A VAMPIRE?! I already said it, but he went from totally annihilating night-stalking ass to totally chewing on some girl’s neck! Why?! What happened between him and Edgar that made him hate Edgar and vice versa?
5.) At least more than ONE member of the original cast. And I don’t mean put them in alternate endings, I mean actually being in the movie.
6.) If NOTHING else, Joel Schumacher has to direct. Pesce can’t do it, no one else has his style or flair.
7.) Bring Cannom back to do makeup effects. Black eyes do not a Lost Boys vampire make. Did David have tiny veins running all over his face, like one of the three Tribe apes? NO! His face was clear and monstrous. The gore in he Tribe was over the top done, the vampires did not look like they did in the first.
And seriously, please not as much cussing. All the LB had was the ‘S’ word at the strongest, while the Tribe had more cussing in thirty seconds than the first movie had in total!
Please, just make it something that will make everyone happy. Including us devoted fans. >:3
I’ve got a new idea it would be good if alans sends his girlfriend to edgar frogs caravan hoping to lure him back to Alan, edgar will just be thinking shes a normal chick, but really shes his brothers gilrfreind who is a vampire. once Alan gets hold of edgar he trys to settle a score.
( BRING ALANS GIRLFREIND BACK IF ALAN IS A VAMPIRE PLEASE!) shes the women in the alternative Ending in the car with alan.
First off, this website is awesome! I’ve only just stumbled upon it, all thanks to my buddy Ian [Walkside].
Anyway, I’d like to state that I too was extremely disappointed by The Tribe. I just hope that the 3rd can make it up to the REAL fans and rinse out the bitter taste that was left with the sequel.
To keep it short, I’d really like to see Sam Emerson as a head vamp with his own newly recruited group of Boys.
Plus I chucked together a couple of concept posters -

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone that’s stopped buy and commented here, and thanks, Mr. Rabba, for those great graphics! Keep telling everyone you know to come by here and scream about LB3. We need all the voices we can get!
Glad you approve of the poster images =]
I’ll head over and pass the link along at IMDB. The word should spread quickly over there. Plus Walkside has posted it on the Lost Boys III board…one of the bases are covered =]
…oh and big props for your work on this great site! Best Lost Boys fanpage I’ve seen yet!
Cheers rabba, yeah this site is definitely the best Lost Boys site around.
Personally, I didn’t hate LBT, but I didn’t think it did justice to what a true sequel could bring us. From the sounds of things, LB3 could bring that.
Also, gotta agree with rabba, seeing Sam Emerson as a head vamp would be cool. I think that it is important to not completely ignore The Tribe, continue with it to an extent, but make this different.
Changes that need to be made in order to make the Lost Boys 3 a success. My thoughts
—————————————
1)Do away with Luna Bay.Go back to Santa Carla/Santa Cruz.Take Sam back to pogonip/grandpas house and have flashback scenes from the original.
2)Make the movie a prequel to the Tribe,or something that makes the Tribe as if it were just a big dream.I think overlooking it would cause confusion.
3)Feldman needs to look gritty, and rugged..not like he did in the Tribe.Their approach with him being an outsider living in a trailer was good, but his image seemed like an SNL parody.
4)We need to see more of the human Haim….yes he needs to be brought back.If hes going to turn into a vamp,it needs to be done right, and look right, and be saved for the end.He had terrible make up,and it looked like they had shoved wax halloween vampire teeth in his mouth.
5)Mr Newlander. We need to see more of you as a human too.Id like to see a guy that grew up,and tried to forget his vampire slaying past.Perhaps your son or daughter gets dragged in,and thats when your brother(Edgar)whom you havent spoken with in a long time shows up at your door, warning you to keep an eye on your kid.Eventually you are confronted with the option…you give in,and become one of them,or they kill your child(kind of like Lucy and Max at the end of the lost boys). This would also be a great idea for Haim’s character.
6)Bring back Chance!Laddie was a great character and it seems like he gets overlooked.Come on..”its the attack of Eddie Munster!!!”.Maybe he has had a screwed up life because of his childhood in Santa Carla, and tracks you,Sam,or Edgar down.Perhaps Laddie cant let go of the past, and starts to hang with Edgar….but Edgar still wonders how much he can trust him.
7)Dont give the movie an overproduced, glossy look(like Prom Night, and so many other new “horror films”).Its not going to be huge production,so dont try to make it look like it is.Give it a look like Wonderland or the Lords of Dogtown.
8)If the film cant afford a huge soundtrack, dont sacrifice quality just to round up a few no name bands.Get some good old music, bring back Gerard McMann’s cry little sister(!!!!).As a sort of funny, yet cool way of paying tribute to the original, bring back some of the songs from the original soundtrack, but not too much.Maybe have them playing on a radio,or tv.
9)Totally forget the look and acting of the vampires in the Tribe!!Fans want original contact lenses, and original make up.The vamps from the Tribe talk way too much, and remind you of the guys you hate at college parties. These guys need to be rugged outsiders.
10)The vampires need cool clothes.Like in the original, these guys can look cool, without looking like a guido American eagle model.Rugged looking jeans,t shirts,jackets,necklaces,bracelets,piercings,tattoos..
11)No computer effects make up for the vampires…that looked so terrible at the beginning of the Tribe.Go old school…that usually looks more realistic if you dont have a big budget.Over done make up and cheesy effects are no good. The make up in the original was so great because it was subtle.
I understand that alot just isnt going to happen..Schumacher wont be involved. We wont see Kiefer,or Jason Patric. There probably wont be a killer soundtrack that matches the original,as far as new music.Would Jamie Gertz ever consider doing another movie?Ive heard that she never even knew the Lost Boys has a ton of fans.
I should add that I understand that the lodge that was used at Granndpas house is fenced off and in bad shape.I still think it would be great to see Sam hanging out there, looking out at Santa Carla..thinking(insert flashback scenes).
Also..If Jamison or anyone else needs help with convincing the powers that be of what needs to be done to make a proper sequel,I would be glad to tag along.Im not the usual fan..6’3 270lb strongman and powerlifter, who has been an almost obsessive fan of this movie since I first saw it around 1988(age 5)…I can make things happen lol.I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with for this movie.Good luck.
Ok,going back to the interview,I have to post one last time!!Jamison is right…listen to Kiefer!!!!!From everything Ive ever read,or seen from him he really seems to love the Lost Boys, just as the fans do.He would be a great person to go to for direction in another Lost Boys movie.
Joel wasnt involved at all.Joel has said that there is no more Lost Boys…they are all dead.I think he was just doing his best to keep a junk movie from coming out, that had the name “Lost Boys”tagged to it.I dont blame him.People bash Joel so much for his Batman movie, but fail to see the great job he did with movies like the Lost Boys,Flatliners,The Client,Falling down, and even the Phantom of the Opera.
People like familiarity, so a story surrounding yourself, and the two coreys would be grand! And it gives everyone that true sequel that they wanted to see when the LB2-the-tribe hype started. Any other characters from the original would be a bonus! Thankyou for taking time to read what the fans have to say, they…like yourself want to see a Lost boys sequel that had that feel good factor from the original, which should include yourself, Corey Feldman and Corey Haim>(if possible)
^like yourself *we want to see…
This was a very nice interview. Thank you for getting this for us fans, Donna. And thank you, Jamison for doing an interview.
There are a few things I wish could be included in LB3:
1. As most fans believe, please bring all the Monster Bashers together. If it involves Edgar trying to get Alan back to his human state and somehow Sam either helping or hurting Edgar along the way would be fine.
2. I want to see more of the original cast. Fans love them, we should see them. Whether it be to reprise a role (but honestly David is the only one they could really bring back…) or just a cameo, it’s all good. That includes Laddie or even Michael and Starr.
That’s all I want and maybe a little TLC like most fans would give a new LB project. We love this franchise, we hate to see it get torn apart.
Let’s return to some original ideas, folks.
Instead of doing a straight up sequel how about doing a prequel to the movie that leads up to the earthquake that buried the nightclub that becomes a cave in the original Lost Boys movie. The night club could be like a haven for vampires. During the movie have some teenagers in the 1900s that are vampire hunters and kill vamps for sport.
Maybe I’m alone but I actually liked the Tribe. I thought the storyline was good. I think they should have put a link between Keifer and Angus but they didnt. How Alan and Same became vampires will be an interesting tale. Personally, I hope it isnt a trainwreck but we have to wait for the finished product.
I just finished seeing tribes after avoiding it for a while, and oh my am I NOT impressed. I am however pleased with the glimmer of hope this interview brings us. I have loved the original since childhood, and I actually have to say I align myself fully with Keiffer Sutherlands viewpoint. I do wish they had not made Sam a vampire, but that train has rolled, I can only suggest that the screenwriters do their homework, listen to the fans, and really, make it more like the original. This is not a cheap moneymaker, this is one of the few vampire movies that actually has some integrity, which has been threatened by the abomination that is the tribe. I will grant you however, that is was not as bad as the Anaconda sequels. Anyways, I am rambling now, but LISTEN TO THE FANS! Get what you can from their word, and stay true to the original! I will repeat that this is NOT a franchise you can just “update” and turn into a look alike for other movies of the genre. Seriously, I am begging you, heed my words.
Ok…The Lost Boys came out when I was about a year old but that has not stopped the obsession that took hold of me when I first saw the original movie. There was something so deliciously perfect about it. The movie has one of the best opening shots ever with the slow pan helicopter shot of the boardwalk, the soundtrack, the wardrobe, the story, the characters, everything. To this day I will still get in my car and jam out to some Lost in the Shadows, Cry Little Sister, or I Still Believe, I don’t care how many strange looks I get from people when I’m stopped at a stop light. It remains to this day to be my most favorite 80′s movie of all time. Period.
Now on to the travesty that was The Tribe or as I like to call it: WHAT THE F@#$ WAS THAT S@#$? Let’s look at this from a rational perspective here. Not all of us have read the travesty that was the “comic” prequel to LB2. In my crazed fan joy I found it on wikipedia and read it when I found out that there was going to be a second movie come out. I was immediately appalled by a few things. The first was the fact that Grandpa was a half vampire all along. Sure it would explain how he knew about the vampires and what not but get real. Do the fictional man some justice, he’s lived there probably his entire life, he’s bound to know anyway. Now the really end all be all of the most disgusting revelation that I read. Alan becoming a vampire. I’ll overlook the fact that I’ve had a crush on both Frog Brothers since I watched the movie for the first time. I cannot overlook the fact that someone who once helped his brother “trash the one that looked like twisted sister” by ” totally annihilating his night stalking ass” would end up as a blood sucker. NO! Epic Sigh* The Tribe largely relied on Angus Sutherland’s good looks [let's face it, he's got the same kind of appeal as Kiefer but is by no means as good of a vampire badass as him], the return of the ultimate badass vampire slayer Edgar Frog, and rabid fans such as my self to bring it into any kind of marginal success. It sickens me to think that the Hollywood disease of taking a story that came before and tweaking it to give it a new look to release to the public caught up with the mighty Lost Boys.
Now, as far as what I would like to see happen in the third movie is as follows:
1. Bring Alan back. As a human. As a vampire slayer. Get rid of the cowboy hat. Get rid of the long greasy wig. Get rid of the blood slut in the lingerie.
2. I’m not a particular Corey Haim fan for various reasons but I will not deny the fact that the man should have some sort of part to play in the new movie. I think that LB3 should open with Edgar “totally annihilating his night stalking ass.” Once again proving what we already know to be fact: Edgar Frog is arguably the best vampire slayer and this is coming from a girl who watched Buffy religiously.
3. Go back to the old school make up. They’d save more money to have a sweet theater release if they cut back on stupid motorcycle tricks, dumb chase scenes, bad camera work, and shitty special effects like Jon throwing up all that blood. COME ON! Vampires are NOT supposed to look like freaking possessed dogs on steroids. I want amber/red eyes. I want limited prosthetics on the face. And I most definitely want kick ass wardrobe and hair! Not like freaking members of an abc family show suddenly became vampires and attacked.
4. Cameos from some of the original cast is always good. I love the original cast.
5. If Alan MUST be a vampire can he please, please, please eat Aunt Jillian in the most ridiculous way possible?
6. And furthermore, if he MUST be a vampire can he please get a better wardrobe? I find it hard to believe that someone who goes from wearing camo and tight muscly shirts and dog tags would end up wearing that monstrosity of an outfit. I don’t care how bad ass he thinks he is, I’d stake him for that wardrobe alone.
7. Edgar Frog had better not die and her CERTAINLY better not become a vampire. Now, I understand that it would be an interesting twist that he would have to become what he hates most of all in order to stop his brother. [That is if Alan HAS to be a vampire in this next one which sadly is probably where they're going with this one.] But, this is Edgar “I hate fucking vampires” Frog.
8. Please bring back the man in the purple spandex: aka Tim Capello to play “I Still Believe” even if it’s just on the radio in a scene.
9. Go back to Santa Carla. Obviously this may not be feasible because permits and licenses for filming are easier and cheaper to obtain in Canada but come on people. If you’re going to have an epic Frog v. Frog battle go back to where it all started.
10. Most importantly, I want the third film to capture the same kind of magic as the first one. I want to feel the same kind of loyalty to it that I feel to the first that I have to tell all of my friends to watch it and get them as obsessed with it as we are with the first film. Listen to Kiefer. Listen to Joel. Do it right or I’m hunting someone down and as Alan put it: “first come, first staked.”
This sums it up:
A continuation of the alternate endings! I was more intrigued by the alternate endings and Edgar Frog being alone in LB2 than I was about any other character and plot element of that movie. I’d like to see his brother Alan, a Master Vampire and a sexy one at that, returning to “settle things” with Edgar as said in the alternate endings.
Edgar always took vampire slaying seriously enough to think nothing of slaying someone’s sibling. The Frog bros wanted Sam to stake Michael at the first opportunity, and Edgar wanted to kill Nicole. What about his twin brother?
Alan could possibly be the most deadly and badass vampire since Kiefer Sutherland played David–Alan was a vampire hunter and knows ALL the resources and tricks. Look at the Vampmobile! Only a Frog brother is that resourceful.
Seeing the “societal” or “famillial” aspect of vampires a little more too. In the alternate endings, Alan is said to be a Msater vampire. What this means for and among vampires.
I loved The Lost Boys The Tribe.. but they should have made The Lost Girls or that could have been another side project. But then again, rumors about The Lost Boys 3.. after 22 years later, bringing back the WHOLE ENTIRE ORIGINAL CAST! Now that, would be amazing! I’ve been a huge fan of The Lost Boys ever since I was 3, which was in 1993. And that just took off with my whole vampire obsession. And ever since then, The Lost Boys has a very special place in my heart, to this day. Its one of my favorite movies. I used to watch it 24/7 for months and month.
I would be like one of the most happiest people..If, they brought back the whole original gang into making the 3rd lost boys, continuing after all those years thinking David was dead.. or was thought to be dead.
Since, “The Lost Girls” was never made. And The Tribe, wasn’t as great as The Lost Boys. I loved The Tribe, but nothing can compare to the first.
But, in my opinion, like I said. They should all come back.. DO IT FOR THE FANS! We love you!
I want to see both coreys, jamison, jami gertz, kiefer, jason, and diane come back!
I hope my wish comes true..I love The Lost Boys!
Oh, by the way.. I would also like to add! At the ending of The Tribe! When Edgar starts charging after Sam and him ready.. God! You can’t just leave us hanging like that! “I’m warning you!” Gotta love that.. but yeah, that would be like a HUGE disappointment if that was the whole ending for the story and the movies.
And to let down thousands, maybe millions of fans of the movies? Is anybody willing to do that? I wouldn’t. I wish I could be in vampire movies, and maybe someday, I or someone can fulfill my dream and be in one. Vampires are my specialty, after all.
Like many others here, I’ve been a fan of “The Lost Boys” for years. I first saw it at eight years old (I’m thirty now), and it made such a huge and unique impression on me.
Now, my kids love it, and our guests often comment wistfully on the movie poster we have framed in the living room. That movie represented a great time in my childhood, and I am happy to share it with my kids now!
And I am happy now, to stumble upon this unique opportunity to have our voices (possibly) heard! So thanks for the interview, and here we go!
1. When “The Tribe” came out, my kids and I sat down excitedly to watch it. Needless to say, I sent them out of the room within the first 30 (ridiculous) seconds. I honestly don’t mind swearing, but wow, it was so gratuitous and forced in “The Tribe” that I was immediately turned off. It wasn’t edgy, gritty, or cool. It was stupid. I would love to see it toned down some—say to the level of the original?
2. The vamp gang in “The Tribe” were so shallowly one dimensional; they reminded me of the “extreme guys” in the original “Harold and Kumar”. It was unintentionally hilarious. The constant hooting, cussing, and Xena like yells were beyond ridiculous. These guys were just unlikeable douches. (Can I say douche here? Not sure.) If a third installment gets made, can we make the vampires cool again? (Hint for filmmakers: Teens don’t think people are automatically cool if they hoot and cuss a lot). “The Tribe” vampires were just so “EXTREME!”…and that silly trend was over a decade ago. (I mean really—the part where Shane hands Chris the skateboard as some kind of acceptance challenge was SO SILLY.) I would LOVE to see cool vampires. Slick. Sly. Sexy. Like say…the original?
3.Straight to DVD. For Lost Boys? REALLY? Why? Get a director/producer to really go for it, and give us a true sequel that at least “tries” to be on par with the original.
4. Good casting is a must. “The Tribe” was just very poorly cast. Not only were the vampires totally unlikeable, but the protagonists Chris and Nicole were unlikeable as well. The actors seemed to have to no love for what they were doing; it was hard to root for anyone, because there was no one to root for. In the original film, it was hard to root for anyone, because they were ALL so likable! The vamps? Awesome. Michael, Star, and Laddie? Awesome. Sam and the Frogg Brothers? Awesome. A good cast, even of unknowns, can create magic. Speaking of which…
5. ORIGINAL CAST parts/appearances. As many as you can get. Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander as the Frogg Brothers. They already said they’d do it, so don’t mess it up you silly, greedy executives! And definitely Corey Haim as Sam—no excuses; dunk him in a tub of cold water and get him on set! How about Dianne Wiest—come back in a small role as Sam’s mom? That’d be great. What about Jami Gertz and Chance Corbitt? Would they be willing to have part in this? Were any of them ever even asked or approached with the idea? Jason Patric and Kiefer would be terribly hard to get, and I understand that; but did anyone even try or ask? All I’m saying here is what the majority of fans are saying—we want a REAL sequel. A few of the originals back, and a storyline we can connect to…with characters we can connect to.
As for my very silly idea:
Grandpa has passed away, and Sam and his kids along with Sam’s mom Lucy, come back to Santa Carla for the funeral. (Micheal would be nice, too, but that’s probably wishful thinking). At the same time, Star is on her way back to Santa Carla because Laddie has got himself into trouble (drugs? the law? vampires?). The main story would center around two concepts; Sam’s kids (who may be getting into something they shouldn’t along with Laddie or perhaps because of him), and the relationship of the Frogg Brothers and Sam. What has happened all these years gone by? Why does Alan become a vampire? Is Sam a vampire because he failed to save his kids? Where does Edgar fit in?
Bah. Silly, I know, but I always thought you could flesh something like that out really well.
All in all…writers, directors, executives…please give the fans something they *WANT* for a change. Make us remember WHY it’s so much fun to sleep all day, party all night, never grow old, and never die.
I just stumbled across this site and it’s going in my favorites!! As a HUGE Lost Boys fan (since I was 10-I’m 32 now) I want to share with you all The Lost Boys sleeve (tattoo) I’m doing on a customer of mine who is also a big fan. Go to myspace.com/rooster1313
