The Soundtrack

soundtrackbacksmall

Just as there are ‘signs of the times,’ there is ‘music of the times.’  Sometimes music captures the aura of our guests and, needless to say, this compilation of notes does just that for one particular set of patrons.  I highly recommend this music to anyone with the ability to hear, as it’s not only the essence of the Hotel but the lives of the Lost Boys as well.

While not all of the music in the film is compiled onto this soundtrack, the nostalgia it rouses as soon as it starts playing is more than enough to sate any fan of the film.  The listing is as follows–

  • Good Times–INXS featuring Jimmy Barnes
  • Lost in the Shadows (The Lost Boys)–Lou Gramm
  • Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me–Roger Daltrey
  • Laying Down the Law–INXS
  • People Are Strange–Echo and the Bunnymen
  • Cry Little Sister (Theme from The Lost Boys)–Gerard McMann
  • Power Play–Eddie and the Tide
  • I Still Believe–Tim Capello
  • Beauty Has Her Way–Mummy Calls
  • To The Shock of Miss Louise–Thomas Newman

Cry Little Sister and  Lost in the Shadows are probably the two songs the newer fans want to pinpoint the most.  Cry Little Sister can be heard most notably at the opening credits (the whispering voices saying ‘thou shall not . . .’) and during Star and Michael’s love scene.  Lost in the Shadows is heard during the motorcycle beach ride just after Michael meets the boys for the first time.  If you want clarification on any of the other songs, just ask.

This soundtrack is much more readily available than the novelization and can be found pretty much anywhere, from your every day music store to eBay.  Of course, the cheapest prices will probably be found on the auction site.  Many start as low as a penny.

I have been able to obtain the rare score for the movie from eBay.  How awesome of a site that place is.  And I didn’t have to sell my soul to get it.  I think I was just scouring the right place at the right time, really, because I paid $20 including shipping when I’ve seen it run as high as $80 without.

The cover art are definitely scans (although high quality) but the CDs look genuine, otherwise they’re awesome copies.  It’s a two-disc collection and the listing is as follows–

As you can see, there’s a lot to this CD and can probably understand why it’s so coveted.  The score music is absolutely awesome.  If you thought the original soundtrack brought you back to the movie, this one will put you right in it.
